Scientists Call on Museums to Cut Ties With Koch Brothers

Almost three dozen scientists and environmental groups sent an open letter on Tuesday to museums of natural history appealing them to cancel their ties with the Koch brother and such institutions that have links with fossil-fuel industry.

Scientist in the letter asserted that museums and natural history should not be linked with anything that take benefits from fossil fuels or fund lobby groups that misrepresent climate science.

The petition majorly circles around David Koch, a billionaire conservative donor and executive vice president of Koch Industries.

.

It even insists that Koch should be removed from the boards of the American Museum of Natural History in New York and the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington.

The scientists are also planning to present the petitions to the museums in New York and Washington before their spring board meetings.

It has been found that Koch earlier gave $15 million to museum’s Hall of Human Origins, which is named for him. At the New York museum, he donated $20 million to a dinosaur wing that is also named after him.

Koch did not respond to the letter, but Ken Spain, Koch’s managing director for external relations in an email stated that David Koch and the David H. Koch Charitable Foundation have contributed more than $1.2 billion to educational institutions and cultural institutions, cancer research, medical centers, to assist public policy organizations.
