Nashua community donates nearly $12K to save three abandoned dogs

Munificent donations from members of the public gave a trio of abandoned dogs in Nashua a new lease of life by covering costs of surgeries they needed to get rid of life-threatening ailments.

The three dogs, viz. Lily, Diamond, and Kit Kat, are now on the path to recovery following their surgeries. All the three were brought to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua with some really serious illnesses a few weeks back.

As the animals required expensive surgeries, the humane society launched a fundraiser, seeking funds from the public. Nearly three dozen people came forward to help the animals in need. They donated nearly $12,000.

Noelle Schuyler, an assistant development director with the humane society, said, “They are all in various stages of recovery. They all had very different surgeries … we still have bills coming in, but we were going to do the surgeries anyway; it’s who we are.”

Diamond, a Shih Tzu who was sent to the shelter by a family that was no longer able to care for the animal, got mammary masses removed that could have become cancerous.

Kit Kat, a 5-year-old cocker spaniel, was a ‘mess’ with matted hair, toenails so long that they curled into his feet as well as chronically infected ears. Lily, a 7-year-old pug mix a pug, was suffering from a badly injured knee that needed major surgery.
