Azarenka wins both Indian Wells and Miami Open as third woman after Clijsters and Steffi

On Sunday morning she achieved rare feat in the recent history of American tennis. Victoria Azarenka has been the third woman to have clinched the titles in both Indian Wells and in the Miami Open Masters championship. On Sunday Azarenka defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3, 6-2 in the final to win Miami Open. The first woman tennis player to have won both Indian Wells and Miami Open was Klim Clijsters in 2005. Then it was one and only Steffi Graf who had achieved the rare feat in 1994 and in 1996.

Azarenka who got 13th seed in the Miami Open Masters fought hard in each set of her six matches on Sunday to win her third title in the Key Biscayne, the first title Azarenka grabbed in last five years. Azarenka’s ranking went down to 30 two years ago as she was continuously struggling with her thigh and foot injuries. But her relentless hard work is going to being her again within the top five by the next couple of weeks.

However, in the final Azarenka failed to perform according to her satisfaction. There were a lot of unforced errors, made by both the players. And Azarenka looked so frustrated with her own errors that she wandered a ball straight and it landed in the gallery. Still her anger failed to restore her steadiness in the game. Then Azarenka looked hitting another ball towards the 10th row of the gallery. Having shown disappointment Azarenka finally returned to her form in the second set. And in the second set it was all along Azarenka whose consistent winners put Kuznetsova in great trouble. The Russian was able to offer her opponent only eight winners comparing to Azarenka’s 23 winners in total.

However, the organizers informed Azarenka that she had broken the code by hitting the ball twice towards the gallery and the winner was fined also.
