N.H Supreme Court hears state’s only death row inmate’s appeal

Defense lawyer for New Hampshire's only death row inmate urged the Supreme Court of the state to consider the capital punishments given in similar crimes in other states before deciding if the inmate's sentence was reasonable.

Michael Addison was awarded capital punishment after he was found guilty of murdering Manchester police officer Michael Briggs in the year of 2006. The hearing on Thursday was his last direct appeal.

New Hampshire University Wildcats enjoyed a two-goal victory over nationally ranked Providence College in a Hockey East game on Tuesday night, partly thanks to Daniel Tirone made a whopping 30 saves.

The two goals for the Wildcats (7-11-2 overall) were scored by Grayson Downing at 4:09 and 12:17 of the opening period of the game that took place yesterday night at the Whittemore Center.

The New Hampshire Army National Guard regiment is deploying 370 citizen-soldiers to an undisclosed location in the Middle East.

A deployment ceremony for the soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 197th Field Artillery Regiment of the state Army National Guard was organized on Sunday at the Southern N.H. University Field House in Manchester, where hundreds filled the bleachers to say goodbye.

The deployment to the unknown location in the Middle East is to support Operation Spartan Shield, an ongoing training mission of the U.S. Army in the Central Command area of operations.

N.H. woman charged with beating death of 3-year-old daughter

A New Hampshire mother been charged with beating of her own three-year-old daughter to death, just around six months after she was taken into custody for abusing two of her other children.

Katlyn Marin, 25, appeared through video link in district court in Nashua, N. H. for her arraignment on Monday. She said nothing during her video-appearance in the court.

According to police, Marin assaulted her little daughter, Brielle Gage, numerous times on Nov. 24 and Nov. 25. The little girl was rushed to a nearby hospital after a 911 call was made by someone from the family's Nashua home.

Two U.S. Ski Team prospects die in avalanche

The U. S. Ski Team has confirmed that two prospects, including a rising-star racer from the state of New Hampshire, lost their lives in an avalanche in the Austrian Alps on Monday.

Twenty-year-old Ronnie Berlack, of Franconia in N. H. and 19-year-old Bryce Astle, of Sandy in Utah were killed when they were caught in the avalanche while skiing with four other athletes at a resort in Soelden, Austria.

While four skiers survived, Berlack and Astle couldn't escape. Both were training with the U. S. development team.

NH chain-reaction vehicle crashes leave many people injured

Nearly three dozen vehicles were locked in two separate pileups on Interstate 93 (I-93) near Ashland in New Hampshire on Friday morning, authorities confirmed.

While initial reports said 50 to 100 vehicles might be involved in the chain-reaction crashes and pileups, New Hampshire State Police Lt. Jerome Maslan trimmed that number and said 35 vehicles were involved in the two pileups.

The accident at around 10 a. m. left a tractor-trailer in inferno, crumpled cars strewn along the roadway and around a dozen people injured. The tractor-trailer caught fire after a car went underneath it.
