Florida Will Not Have a Bear Hunt Season This Year, says FWC

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has finally made a decision over this year’s bear hunting season. During a meeting on Wednesday, the commission voted 4-3 to cancel the bear hunt this year.

The commission’s move is surprising as last year it voted 6-1 to allow hunting of black bears in Florida. The season was held in last year’s October, first time in last about two decades. A number of environmental experts were against the hunt that time.

The Florida Department of Health confirmed on June 21, 2016 that a school-going kid in Miami-Dade County has been diagnosed with measles. The name of the school, which the kid attends, has not been disclosed. The health officials further established that the kid had not received vaccination against the extremely contagious illness that can get transmitted via small droplets in the air created due to a cough or sneeze.

The two-year-old’s parents did try to save him from the gator, but could not. On the next day, the boy was found dead in six feet murky water just 10 yards from where the gator attacked him. Now, concerns are being raised as what more it would take for Florida to wake up and take action on the matter.

The alligator problem has long been known in Florida and a toddler was dragged away by a giant reptile Tuesday night about 9 pm.

Before being taken, the two-year-old was splashing in no more than a foot of water at Disney’s luxe Floridian Resort and Spa. The little boy’s parents tried to grab him away from the gator, but failed, say authorities and witnesses. His body was found the next day floating in six feet of murky water just 10 yards from where the gator attacked him.
