US Department of the Interior has announced that the Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrel no more faces risk of getting extinct. In December, the species will be removed from the list of Threatened and Endangered Wildlife.

The squirrel was added in the list under the Endangered Species Preservation Act in 1967, the first time when the list was published. The species continued to be on the successor list under the Endangered Species Act passed in 1973.
