LIGO opens up New Era of Astronomy by Again Detecting Gravitational Waves

Once again, Albert Einstein’s gravitational waves have been detected directly by astronomers. Both the times the waves were noticed by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO).

Like the first discovery, the signal was from a collision between two black holes, said the LIGO team. Before this, first direct detection of gravitational waves was announced in February this year.

Extended hormonal drugs treatment could cut breast cancer risk’s recurrence

Results of a clinical trial have unveiled that the hormonal drugs taken for up to 15 years can lessen the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Benefit was noticed in women who were taking the drug called letrozole, part of a class of estrogen-reducers called aromatase inhibitors.

The findings based on the assessment of 1,918 patients could considerable change treatment for millions of women given the fact that 1.7 million women across the globe are diagnosed with breast cancer on annual basis.

MIT Researchers Devise New System that could make encryption techniques a thing

MIT researchers have come up with a new system that may make encryption techniques, which are presently in use to keep computer data safe, a thing of past. The research team said it has created a new quantum computer with the help of just five atoms. The computer is the first one ever to realize a potential mathematical technique that was invented over a couple of decades back.

MIT Researchers Develop Efficient and Thin Solar Cells

Researchers at MIT have produced the thinnest, lightest solar cells ever. The laboratory proof-of-concept has shown a new approach to make solar cells, which in future will power the portable electronic devices.

The researchers have affirmed that it will take years before it turns out to be a commercial product. Study researchers have affirmed that the key to the new approach to make the solar cell is the substrate that supports it and protective over-coating required to cover it from the environment.
