Mass. rolls out campaign to reintroduce Health Connector

Massachusetts has rolled out an extensive campaign to reintroduce the Health Connector as the agency's brand new website is all set to open its virtual doors to tens of thousands of potential health insurance customers.

The state government has set aside $13.2 million to support the effort, funded by a federal grant, to contact as many as 400,000 people who are seeking to sign up for a health insurance plan within three months.

A U. S. District Court on Thursday pronounced a sentence of 18 months in federal prison along with a fine of $25,000 to an ex-Massachusetts state probation commissioner after he was found guilty of rigging the agency's hiring process.

John O'Brien, and his former deputies Elizabeth Tavares and William Burke, were convicted of rigging the agency's hiring process with an intention to favor politically-connected candidates.

Tavares received 3 months in prison and $10,000 in fine, while Burke got one year of supervised release along with a $10,000 fine.

Boston-based biotech startup Intarcia Therapeutics has signed a deal with a French drug maker for developing an implantable drug-loaded pump to treat diabetes.

Under terms of its more than $1-billion license deal with France-based Servier, Intarcia will receive $171 million up front, three near-term milestones totaling $230 million, and additional $650 million if the experimental pump called ITCA 650 meets regulatory approvals and sales milestones.

Many educational institutions across Massachusetts received bomb threats Wednesday afternoon, which put the state police as well as the FBI into action.

Boston College High School confirmed that it received a bomb threat at 12:08 p. m. The threat was immediately reported to police, which conducted an extensive search as students remained in classes. Luckily, no bomb was found in the school.

Massachusetts police detectives are searching for a missing woman who disappeared last Thursday after making phone calls to her friends saying she was with a man who made her really 'nervous'.

Jaimee Mendez, a 25-year-old mother of a 5-year-old son, made two calls to her friends and expressed concerns over the suspicious man and said she wanted to get out of there.

Alyssa Mendez, the missing mother's sister, said, "Listen, I'm on this street, I'm with this guy, he's making me really nervous, I want to get out of here."
