Dog Cloning Successfully Done Using Tissue of Dead Dog

A British couple made history after they cloned puppies using tissue of their dead dog, Dylan. Dylan, a boxer dog died due to brain tumor. Dylan was eight year old when he died in June, said his owners.

Ms Laura Jacques, 29, and Mr Richard Remde, 43, said scientists warned them that cloning has never worked on dogs that had been dead for more than five days. They were also told that the procedure is quite costly and would cost around costs £67,000 (S$140,000) per procedure.

Colorado wildlife officials are creating an app that can be used to capture images of animals and create a database that can be used by scientists to study what harm climate change is causing to state’s habitats.

The new app called iNaturalist will motivate people to participate in fight against climate change. Users of the app can post the images and sounds or any interesting view captured by them.

A disease named Rapid Ohia Death (ROD) has killed hundreds of thousands of Hawaii’s iconic and native Ohia trees. The disease is caused by a fungus known as Ceratocystis fimbriata. As per experts at the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Hawaii, the place is new to this disease, and the disease has so far affected just Big Island forests.

But, the DLNR has cautioned that the disease has the potential of spreading throughout the state.

Heavy front-end loaders pushed the leftovers of a 44-foot whale into a deep beach trench on Wednesday, and the rare burial was witnessed by dozens of onlookers on a warm Galveston Island afternoon.

The burial of carcass was done after a seven-hour necropsy, or animal autopsy. The autopsy was performed to find out what illness caused the deep-water resident mammal to beach himself on a sandbar where he lost his life on Tuesday, about 12:30 pm.

NASA had launched its New Horizons spacecraft in 2006 with an aim to perform a flyby study of the Pluto system. The spacecraft not only provided exciting information on Pluto, but is also getting ready for secondary mission to study another Kuiper belt object. Earlier, it sent a set of images of Pluto that scientists believe are sharpest images we have ever seen of Pluto.

NASA said the images with a resolution of about 250-280 feet per pixel exposing to Pluto’s view diverse surface. Cratered, mountainous and glacial terrains of the dwarf planet are clearly visible in new pictures.
