Mass. school demonstrates Shooter Detection System

A Massachusetts school on Tuesday installed and demonstrated a military-style shooter detection system, which is capable of alerting police of gunfire within one second.

The Methuen, Mass.-based school, which was not identified by authorities for security reasons, yesterday demonstrated the Guardian Active Shooter Detection System, a new technology that boasts "near zero" false alerts.

A New Hampshire Catholic school principal has reportedly agreed to admit charges that she embezzled more than $150,000 from an elementary school in Litchfield.

Shannon Dannible, 37, has reached a plea deal with state prosecutors, in which she agreed that she would admit to a single count of theft from St. Francis Assisi School during the four-year tenure as principal.

St. Francis of Assisi School was founded in 1957 on Brown Avenue in Manchester. In 2000, it moved to Litchfield. It is now located on an 18-acre estate at Sterling Road.

Exeter police confiscate phones from high school students

Exeter police investigators have confiscated around a dozen phones from high school students as part of their investigation into an incident involving "inappropriate use" of personal technology.

Confirming the ongoing investigation, Exeter Police Dept. Chief Richard Kane acknowledged that at least 10 phones were confiscated from students, and a number of students were under scrutiny.

Without revealing details, Kane said, "At least 10 phones and we are looking at a number of kids."

With the purchase and ongoing development of land on U. S. 202 and Beaver Valley Road in Brandywine Hundred, Wilmington University is departing from its past of being a modest institution, Irenee du Pont Jr. said.

Wilmington University, a New Castle-based private career-oriented institution, purchased 41 acres of land in Brandywine Hundred to erect three classroom buildings on 29 acres and some other projects. Work on the first 50,000- sq.-ft. building expected to start within 18 months.
