N.H. House approves drone regulation bill

The New Hampshire House recently overwhelmingly voted to allow the state to decide how to regulate the use of drones, approving the House Bill 602 with a 251-114 vote.

Supporting the bill, Rep. Renny Cushing (D-Hampton) said that the state would have to rethink what trespassing is, given the new technology allows something as small as a bumblebee to hover outside one's bedroom window.

New Hampshire lawmakers are mulling over a quirky measure that aims to allow adults to join children for playing Bingo games.

The new bill, presented by Republican Rep. James Webb on Tuesday to a state Senate committee, would allow anyone over age of 18 years to play children’s bingo games if they are supervising a kid or kids. But, participating adults would not be eligible for winning prizes.

Under the state’s current law, hotels, campgrounds other recreational facilities have to host separate bingo games for children and adults. Webb’s bill aims to change that.

A New Hampshire bill that would have legalized casino gambling at a single location in the state collapsed once again in the state Senate.

Senator Lou D'Allesandro, the bill's lead sponsor, more or less killed the measure with a motion to introduce it for consideration the second time this session. It is the only casino bill that is still on the table in the state legislature for consideration this session. Another bill, which is in now committee in the Senate, aims to make "Keno" legal.

New Hampshire lawmakers have approved the 'jury nullification bill' that intends to make juries more aware about their rights to exonerate criminal defendants who are guilty under the law.

The measure would require courts in New Hampshire to tell juries about their powers to nullify in criminal cases. Nullification refers to jurors' ability to acquit a defendant even if evidence points to guilt. Juries would be able to exercise the power if rendering a guilty verdict would create an unjust result.

Numerous N. H. lawmakers defended Gerald DeLemus, who was recently arrested in connection with the 2014 Cliven Bundy standoff in Nevada, saying he is a law-abiding negotiator who deserves to be released on bail.

DeLemus, a resident of Rochester, has been accused of being an organizer of a conspiracy to recruit, organize, train and provide support to armed men involved in the Cliven Bundy ranch standoff.

New Hampshire farmers oppose ‘bestiality bill’

New Hampshire farmers are opposing the newly introduced 'bestiality bill' that would ban humans' sex acts with animals in the state.

Farmers are opposing the bill on the grounds that the controversial law could be unfairly used to arrest innocent people. Robert Johnson, an activist with the New Hampshire Farm Bureau, opposed the bill, calling it unnecessary.

But, Virginia police detective Jeremy Hoffman said farmers didn't need to worry as the bill was not going to affect them.

In face of growing online competition, Sports Authority Inc. on Wednesday filed for Chapter 11 protection and sought Bankruptcy Court’s approval to hire liquidators.

The struggling sporting firm immediately started the process of closing stores at many of its 463 locations. However, the retailer’s four stores in New Hampshire, i.e., in Manchester, Amherst, Salem and Nashua, aren’t among the initial 87 stores that were targeted for immediate sale.
