President Obama starts his Hawaii vacation

President Barack Obama has begun his annual winter leave in Hawaii. Air Force One landed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam late in the evening and Obama arrived with first lady Michelle Obama, their daughters and two dogs on board. They began their about two-week retreat from the hubbub in Washington on the island of Oahu on Saturday.

On Tuesday, a number of candidates from Japan spread out across the country, as official election campaigning started in Japan. It was the first official day of campaigning for a national election that could provide Prime Minister Shinzo Abe an authorization for four more years.

On Tuesday, party campaign has been started by Abe in Soma, a town near to the tsunami-struck Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant. He promised to make developments in recovering from the March 2011 tsunami and in restoring the economy.

A fresh poll shows Republican Rand Paul running ahead of more established names in first primary state in the race for a possible 2016 presidential bid.

The Bloomberg Politics/Saint Anselm New Hampshire Poll is showing Paul gaining early strength. According to the poll, 65 per cent of likely primary voters are viewing him positively, while just 19 per cent of likely primery voters viewing him negatively.

N.H. elections volunteer dismissed for saying ‘God bless you’

A New Hampshire woman who volunteered at the recently held midterm elections says she was dismissed from the role for saying "God bless you" to voters as they left the polling station.

Ruth Provencal was a poll worker in Derry during last week's elections, when she was fired from the role, saying her words "God bless you" was electioneering.

Election officials told her to stay at home on November 4 because they believed her 'God bless you' greeting might be an unlawful effort to influence voters.

Recount for various seats begin this Wednesday

Recounting for various Concord seats after the Nov. 4 midterm elections will start this Wednesday and run into next week, the New Hampshire Secretary of State's Office announced.

The District 7 seat, where Democratic incumbent Sen. Andrew Hosmer leads Republican Kathleen Lauer-Rago by 132 votes, is the state Senate seat that being recounted. Initial results show that there are 24 scattered write-in votes alongside many under-counted and over-counted votes.

Governor-elect Charlie Baker on Monday held meetings with top Democrats in the Massachusetts Legislature to build a common agenda to move the commonwealth forward.

Baker met with incoming Senate President Stanley Rosenberg (D-Amherst), House Speaker Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop) as well as outgoing Senate president Therese Murray (D-Plymouth). After separate meeting with Baker, the Democratic leaders also held a joint press conference.

Governor Maggie Hassan and U. S. Senator Kelly Ayotte praised emergency responders who were honored during the North Country Public Safety Foundation's recently held annual awards dinner.

The North Country Public Safety Foundation, which organized seventh annual awards dinner held at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel last Friday, was established in 2006 with the goal to assist then Sugar Hill Police Chief Jose L. Pequeno Jr., who got severely injured during an attack in Iraq, where he was serving as a member of the N. H. Army National Guard.
