Republicans' takeover of the U. S. Senate and increase of their majority in the House last week showed that voters have lost confidence in Democrats, Texas GOP Governor Rick Perry said on Sunday.

Kicking off the presidential primary season unofficially in New Hampshire, Perry said in Concord that voters had sent a message to President Obama that they had lost confidence that Democrats could competently lead the nation.

Independent expenditure Political Action Committees (PACs) spent $16.9 million on the most recent race for governor in Massachusetts, according to figures revealed by the Office of Campaign & Political Finance (OCPF).

Newly revealed figures show that pro-Charlie Baker groups spend $9.9 million during the 2014 cycle, while pro-Martha Coakley organizations spent $6.9 million.

Conventional political action committees can donate straight to candidates vying for political positions but these committees are now more strictly regulated by the FEC and OCPF.

A North Texas city may see an extended court battle over the issue of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) as the oil & gas industry as well as the state's General Land Office (GLO) have filed lawsuits to prevent authorities from prohibiting the controversial drilling method.

The lawsuits by the Texas Oil & Gas Association and the state's GLO were filed after Denton voters overwhelmingly approved a ban on fracking. The proposal to ban the controversial method received 59 per cent of total votes in Tuesday's election, while 41 per cent of the voters sided with the technique.

In the election held on Tuesday this week, the electronic ballot showed Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst's name in the place meant for GOP candidate Greg Abbott's name. Now governor elect Abbott's name was missing from the list.
