Old Monkeys are like Elderly Humans; Both Get More Selective as They Get Old

Old monkeys have a similarity with old humans: both have fewer friends. A new study has suggested that during old age, monkeys isolate themselves, like older humans do. At that time, they become more selective when it comes to choose friends.

For the study published in Current Biology, a team of researchers from the German Primate Center analyzed social behavior in over 100 monkeys. These were Barbary macaque monkeys, ranged in age from 4 to 29, from a southern French park.

Earth’s ancient magnetic field was different from present day field

A research paper published in Geophysical Research Letters has unveiled that earth’s ancient magnetic field was quite different than the current field. At that time as per the researchers, the magnetic field used to originate from several poles rather than from now familiar two.

Prehistoric insects cloaked themselves in dirt, plant matter and exoskeletons to hide and hunt

A new study based on the assessment of fossils have unveiled that prehistoric insects used to embellish their bodies in debris, plant matter and even the exoskeletons of their prey so they could hide from predators and also to attack on their prey.

Hubble discovers brilliant star cluster in a nearby satellite galaxy

With the help of a new image of a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, NASA astronomers have discovered a previously unknown brilliant star cluster.

The new image shows a dazzling cluster of stars embedded in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small galaxy located nearly 135,000 light-years away from the Milky Way. The newly discovered star cluster has been named NGC 1854. It is one of several hundred star clusters that the distant galaxy contains.

LIGO will detect up to 1,000 black hole collisions annually: astronomers predict

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) will detect as many as 1,000 collisions and mergers of black holes annually once it attains full sensitivity sometime early next decade, astronomers have predicted.

The prediction, which recently published online in the journal Nature, is based on computer simulations of more than one billion evolving binary stars and information provided by the most recent astronomical & astrophysical observations.

Study evaluates people's perception about autonomous vehicles in case of crash

Study evaluates people's perception about autonomous vehicles in case of crash

Automobile companies are spending money and resources on developing autonomous vehicles and many projects are already conducting road tests for self-driving cars. Soon in future, you will see self-driving cars running on roads and making traveling easier for you than it is today. Some industry experts predict there will be fewer accidents due to these autonomous vehicles, but if such a car faces a situation like crash, whose life it will save? What will be more important for the vehicle: its own passenger’s life or lives of others?

Monkeys turn selective about companions when they grow old

Monkeys become selective about companions when they grow old

When humans grow old, they become more selective about their friends. Many people prefer to stay isolated or with a limited group of friends during old age. Similar phenomenon has been noticed in case of monkeys, especially, Barbary macaques. A team of researchers noticed that Barbary macaques become less social as they age. Researchers from the German Primate Center wished to find out affect of age on behavior. They studied this relation in 100 Barbary macaques that were kept in an enclosure in a park in France.
